Tom Rey: A New Teacher for LGHS

Wyatt Turpin, Staff Writer

Locust Grove has seen a lot of change in these past few years, especially in the staff. One of these changes that has come here recently is the leaving of Mr. Sorrow, former coach and teacher. With his absence in the building, a spot was opened for someone to fill. Out of all of those to apply, Mr. Rey has now filled the spot as a government/ social studies teacher.

Mr. Rey grew up in Florida and attended Saint Leo College on a swimming scholarship before teaching. His background in athletics allows for him to have the knowledge of sports, which he uses in his coaching roles being the coach of the Locust Grove JV soccer team as well as possibly the future swim coach here at Locust Grove.

Rey teaches government and other social studies where he is involved with students and seems very eager to teach. When asked how he feels about the Locust Grove High School  atmosphere, he stated, “I have loved my time here so far and look forward to the future.”

While Mr. Rey has no previous experience in teaching in a school environment, his experience in coaching has taught him enough to be successful in the classroom. Mr. Ray is a positive influence in the building and is excited for the future ahead of him at Locust Grove.
