There has been a lot of mystery surrounding the construction here at LGHS, and LGHS’ very own principal, Mr. Townsend, was kind enough to dissipate this cloud of mystery.
The work you see going on in the front of the school is for a new gym, an addition that every school in the county will receive.
The gym’s purpose is mainly to have extra space for extracurricular activities, including but not limited to dramatic performances, as there will be a stage constructed in this gym. This new gym will also hold plenty of athletic events, such as volleyball tournaments.
The exact cost for construction is unknown at the time, but the funding for this new gym is coming from the SPLOST program, which uses the sales tax dollars paid by nonresidents to provide funding for local projects. At this time, construction on this new gym is set to be completed in August of 2020.
