LGHS Baseball Already Hard at Work
November 18, 2020
Many know about the game of baseball, but not many know what all goes on before you get to step on the field. There’s a whole world of baseball most don’t know about: travel ball. Travel-ball is what baseball players do in the summer with different organizations other than their high school. During the summer, travel-ball teams play around the state and even throughout the country. Just like with everything else some people are better than others. usually, if you go to different states to play your team is pretty good.
After summer ball there’s a long preparation time to get ready for school-ball. For some people it’s early morning workouts, for others it’s reps on the field. There’s more to it than pumping iron and fast reps, though. There are lots of fundamentals that go on throughout this phase. Hitting and fielding lessons are a big part of this. The pitchers have a special type of program also called Arm Lab. Many places offer this program, but what happens is they read your velocity and arm strength and create a custom throwing routine for your body.
School-ball season is coming up faster than you think. Before you know it games are going to be played and stands are going to be filled. The smell of hamburgers and hotdogs will soon be in the air as you walk through the gate on a Friday night. Then we will all know its time. If you or someone you know wants to play baseball for The Locust Grove Wildcats let them know to come tryout.
Locust Grove has fielded one of the strongest baseball teams in the state for years, winning the state championship in 2016 and finishing in the Final Four in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
