Boys’ Soccer Captures First Region Championship

The Locust Grove varsity boys’ soccer team defeated Union Grove 3-0 on Tuesday to earn their first region championship.

Daniel Townsend led the scoring with two goals. J.T. Thomas also scored a goal, and Jack Pringle added an assist for the victorious Wildcats.

Connor Biffle was flawless in goal. He held Union Grove scoreless, stopping nine Wolverine shots on goal, including a penalty kick save.

Coach Wayne recognized senior captain, Derek Martinez, “He played a perfect game  as the playmaker and pass distributor. He was the workhorse of the match.”

Coach Wayne also praised the back line of the defense, Jayden Allen, Emmanuel Mfone, Eric Leon Palacios, and Jefferson Bonilla. “They were extremely tough  and shut down their offense.”

The Wildcats are a perfect 6-0 in region play, with one regular season game remaining. However, the region title is already in hand, as LGHS owns the necessary tiebreakers.
